How UIUC GPA Is Calculated
See how course credits, grade values, grade points, and GPA credits combine to calculate a UIUC term GPA.
How UIUC GPA is calculated
For each graded course, multiply the course credit hours by the grade-point value of the letter grade.
`grade points = credit hours × grade value`
For example:
`3 credits × 3.33 grade points = 9.99 grade points`
Add the grade points from all graded courses to get total term grade points.
Then divide total grade points by total GPA credits:
`Term GPA = Total Grade Points ÷ Total GPA Credits`
For example:
Total credits: 10. Total grade points: 36.99.
Term GPA: 36.99 ÷ 10 = 3.699
The UIUC GPA Calculator performs these calculations automatically for up to six courses.
To project a cumulative GPA, the calculator also combines your existing grade points (current GPA credits × current cumulative GPA) with the new term grade points, then divides by the combined GPA credits.
