UIUC GPA Grade Scale
A visual overview of key UIUC letter grades and their grade-point values.
UIUC GPA grade scale
UIUC uses a 4.00 grading scale with plus and minus grades.
The grade-point values used by the calculator are:
- A+ = 4.00
- A = 4.00
- A- = 3.67
- B+ = 3.33
- B = 3.00
- B- = 2.67
- C+ = 2.33
- C = 2.00
- C- = 1.67
- D+ = 1.33
- D = 1.00
- D- = 0.67
- F = 0.00
A+ and A are both 4.00
An A+ does not raise the GPA above the value of an A because both grades carry 4.00 grade points in the UIUC scale.
How the scale affects GPA
The grade-point value is multiplied by the course's GPA hours to determine quality points. Higher-credit courses therefore have a larger effect on the final GPA than lower-credit courses with the same letter grade.
Why excluded grades are different from F
A non-GPA transcript symbol should not automatically be treated as 0.00 grade points. An F contributes GPA hours with 0.00 grade points, while an excluded course contributes neither GPA hours nor quality points.
