Calculators
- Fish Tank Stocking CalculatorEstimate aquarium stocking pressure from tank surface area, total adult fish length, and a conservative fish-type allowance.
- Substrate CalculatorEstimate aquarium substrate volume, weight and bag count from tank footprint, front and back depth, material density and bag size.
OSRS Guides
In-depth explanations of OSRS mechanics, formulas, and planning methods.
- How to Use the Aquarium Substrate Calculator: Volume, Weight, and DepthCalculate the amount of aquarium substrate (gravel, sand, or soil) needed for your tank. The Aquarium Substrate Calculator determines volume in liters, weight in pounds/kg, and number of bags based on tank dimensions and desired depth.
- How to Use the Fish Tank Stocking CalculatorCalculate how many fish your aquarium can support using the surface area method. Understand stocking percentages, fish categories, and how tank shape affects capacity.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is bioload the same as fish length?
- No. Body mass, metabolism, diet, waste, temperature, and species behavior vary, so length alone is not a complete measure.
- Why does the model square adult length?
- It gives larger fish substantially more weight than a simple inches-per-gallon rule, while remaining an openly stated heuristic.
- Does stronger filtration always allow more fish?
- No. Filtration can help process waste but cannot replace swimming space, territory, oxygen, compatibility, or maintenance.
- What does 100% mean?
- It is the model's comparison point, not a scientifically proven safety boundary. Use it only to compare scenarios.
