How to Use This Calculator
Enter the length and width of the area in feet. Adjust the coverage per bale and extra material allowance as needed. You can also enter an optional price per bale to estimate the material cost. Use the coverage stated by your supplier whenever possible.
Formula & Methodology
The calculator multiplies length by width to determine the total area. It divides that area by the coverage per bale and then adds the selected extra material percentage. Estimated cost is calculated from the adjusted number of bales and the price per bale.
Example: Pine straw for a 30 ft by 20 ft area
A 30 ft by 20 ft landscaping bed covers 600 square feet. At 40 square feet per bale, the project requires 15 bales before adding extra material. With a 10% allowance, the estimate is 16.5 bales, so you should plan to purchase 17 full bales.
Actual coverage varies by bale size, compression, pine straw type, application depth, terrain and supplier. This calculator assumes a rectangular area and does not automatically subtract trees, structures or uncovered sections.
