How to Use This Calculator
Use the wall's net length and height. Subtract doors, windows, and other openings before entering dimensions, or calculate each solid wall section separately. Enter the nominal installed block face dimensions that match your layout.
Formula & Methodology
Wall area equals wall length multiplied by wall height. Block face area equals block length multiplied by block height after converting inches to feet. Base blocks equal wall area divided by block face area. The waste allowance is then applied.
Example: a 20 ft by 8 ft wall using 16 in by 8 in blocks
A 160-square-foot wall divided by the face area of a 16 by 8 inch block requires about 180 blocks before waste. With 5% waste, the estimate is about 189 blocks.
This is an area-based estimate. It does not design reinforcement, bond patterns, corners, pilasters, lintels, mortar joints, partial blocks, foundation requirements, or structural capacity. Final whole-block ordering may need to be rounded upward in the supplier order.
