Resource Types in Last War
Last War uses four primary resource types:
Managing all four simultaneously is the core economic challenge of Last War.
Resource Production
Resources are generated by: - Resource buildings (Farms, Gold Mines, Steel Foundries, Oil Rigs) — passive hourly production - Alliance resource nodes — gathered by marching troops to resource tiles on the map - Events and rewards — packages from missions and alliance activities - Market/alliance store — trading speedups or other items for resources
Building level directly affects production rate. Higher Headquarters level unlocks higher-tier resource buildings with significantly greater output.
Resource Consumption Rates
High troop counts create substantial ongoing food consumption — a large army constantly drains food even when not training.
How the Resource Calculator Works
The Resource Calculator estimates: 1. Resource needed for a specific upgrade, training batch, or research 2. Time to accumulate at current production rates 3. Gathering required — how many gathering trips at which resource tile level 4. Bottleneck identification — which resource is the limiting factor
Inputs
Example Calculation
Planning to upgrade Barracks to Level 20: - Cost: 2,000,000 Gold, 800,000 Steel - Current production: 50,000 Gold/hour, 20,000 Steel/hour - Time to accumulate at 0 starting stock: 40 hours Gold, 40 hours Steel
The calculator finds the limiting factor (both at 40 hours here) and shows how many gathering trips would be needed to accelerate.
Resource Protection: War Shields and Vaults
Resources are vulnerable to being raided when unprotected. Mitigation strategies: - Resource Vault (in-game building) — protects a portion of each resource type from theft - Peace Shields — temporarily prevent attacks on your base - Keep resources in Gift Packages instead of stockpiling in plain storage — packages are raid-proof
The Resource Calculator helps time large resource expenditures (upgrades, training) immediately after gathering — minimizing the time resources sit vulnerable.
Food Management with Large Armies
Food is often the hardest resource to balance at high troop counts: - Large T8+ armies consume millions of food per day in upkeep - Running out of food triggers troop desertion (troops become inactive) - Solution: level Farms aggressively, participate in food-heavy gathering events, and upgrade the relevant research tree

Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I stop running out of food in Last War?
- Food shortage at large army sizes is one of the most common mid-to-late game problems. Solutions: upgrade Farms to the highest possible level, research food production bonuses in the Economy research tree, gather from Food resource tiles on the map regularly, and use Food packages from events and missions rather than spending them immediately. Also consider your troop count — every troop requires daily upkeep food, so don't train more troops than you can sustain.
- How do I protect my resources from raids in Last War?
- The best protection strategies are: keep resources inside Gift Packages (raid-proof) and only unpack them when needed; use Peace Shields when you have large amounts stored; upgrade your Resource Vault building to increase the protected resource cap; and spend resources quickly on upgrades rather than storing them. The Resource Calculator helps you time when to unpack and spend resources to minimize raid exposure.
- What is the fastest way to gather resources in Last War?
- Send multiple gathering marches simultaneously to high-level resource tiles on the map. Research gathering speed bonuses in the Economy tree to reduce gathering time. Use commanders with high Gathering stat for higher carrying capacity and speed. Join an active alliance — alliance tech bonuses and high-level alliance resource tiles dramatically increase gathering efficiency. Some events also provide large resource bonuses that can be more efficient than regular gathering.
- What resources do I need the most in Last War?
- Early game: Gold and Food dominate (construction and training). Mid-game: Steel becomes critical for building and research upgrades. Late game: Oil is the premium resource for end-game research. At all stages, Food is the continuous drain because it fuels troop upkeep. The Resource Calculator identifies your current bottleneck resource so you know where to focus gathering efforts.
