How Speedups Work in Last War
Speedups are consumable items that instantly reduce the time remaining on construction, research, or training queues. They are one of the most valuable resources in Last War — managing them carefully separates fast-progressing players from those who plateau early.
Speedup Types and Time Values
Most speedup categories (Construction, Research, Training) are separate — you cannot use a Research Speedup on Construction queues. Universal Speedups can be applied to any category.
How the Speedup Calculator Works
The Speedup Calculator converts between: 1. Time remaining → speedups required (by type and denomination) 2. Speedup inventory → total equivalent hours of acceleration 3. Optimal combination — minimizes waste when combining speedup types
Inputs
Example Calculation
You have 48 hours remaining on a construction project. - 48 hours = 2,880 minutes
Optimal speedup use from inventory: - Use 1 × 24-hour speedup = 1,440 min → 1,440 remaining - Use 1 × 8-hour speedup = 480 min → 960 remaining - Use 1 × 3-hour speedup = 180 min → 780 remaining - Use 13 × 1-hour speedup = 780 min → 0 remaining
Or: 3 × 8-hour + 8 × 3-hour = 1,440 + 1,440 = 2,880 min exactly.
The calculator finds the combination using fewest total speedup items.
Speedup Priority Guidelines
Speedup Economy
Speedups are earned from: - Alliance gifts and war rewards - Season pass rewards - Events and daily missions - Chest drops and resource packages
Most players accumulate speedups slowly and expend them quickly during events or war prep. The Speedup Calculator helps you see exactly how many hours your current stockpile is worth — preventing the common mistake of burning large speedups on minor tasks.
Universal vs. Specific Speedups
Universal Speedups can be applied to any queue type, making them the most flexible. Save Universal Speedups for urgent situations where you've exhausted the category-specific stock. Never burn Universal Speedups on low-priority queues when you have the matching specific type available.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the most efficient way to use speedups in Last War?
- Prioritize speedups on the queues that unlock the most permanent value first: high-level HQ or Main City construction (unlocks new buildings and features), critical research (training speed, combat stats), and troop training before alliance wars. Avoid burning speedups on T1 troop training (completes instantly anyway) or minor upgrades that don't unlock new content. The Speedup Calculator helps you see exactly how many hours your stockpile is worth.
- Can I use Construction speedups for Research in Last War?
- No — Construction, Research, and Training speedups are category-specific and cannot be swapped between queues. Universal Speedups are the exception and can be applied to any queue type. If you have a Research queue and only Construction speedups, you must use Universal Speedups or wait for the right category. Always check which speedup type a queue accepts before spending.
- How do I get more speedups in Last War?
- Speedups come from alliance war rewards, alliance gifts, season pass completions, daily missions, events (especially alliance events and global events), treasure chests, and resource packages. Participating actively in alliance activities is the most reliable speedup source. Some purchase packages also include large quantities of speedups. Active alliance membership dramatically accelerates progression through speedup gifts.
- Should I save speedups or use them regularly in Last War?
- Use them regularly on high-priority queues, but don't spend them carelessly. A common mistake is saving speedups 'for later' and then wasting them on non-critical tasks during events. Set a rule: only spend speedups on queues that directly unlock new features (HQ upgrades, key research) or prepare for specific time-sensitive events like alliance wars. The Speedup Calculator shows your total accumulated hours — if you're over 30 days stored, invest more aggressively in priority queues.
