How Countertop Area Is Measured

Countertops are billed by the square foot of finished surface. Fabricators price by slab yield, not raw area, so you need an accurate field measurement before requesting quotes.

Basic area formula: - Wall run area = Run length (ft) × Run depth (in) ÷ 12 - Island area = Island length (ft) × Island width (ft) - Backsplash area = Length (ft) × Height (in) ÷ 12
