How Support Decks Work in Uma Musume

In Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, your support deck consists of six Support Cards placed in training slots. These cards determine which trainers appear during training sessions, what bonus stats you receive, and how quickly you build Bond (relationship level) with each support character.

Support Card Slots

There are six support card slots in each deck:

Slot TypeTraining FocusEffect When Full
Speed (×1)Speed TrainingBoosts Speed stat gains
Stamina (×1)Stamina TrainingBoosts Stamina gains
Power (×1)Power TrainingBoosts Power gains
Guts (×1)Guts TrainingBoosts Guts gains
Wisdom (×1)Wisdom TrainingBoosts Wisdom gains + SP
Friend (×1)All TrainingBond/energy focused

A Support Card placed in a slot affects training in that category most heavily. The Friend card type can appear in any training session.

Card Rarity Tiers

RarityDesignationMax LevelBonus Potential
R (Rare)★★30Minimal
SR (Super Rare)★★★35Moderate
SSR (Super Super Rare)★★★★45High

SSR cards trained to Level 45 with MLB (Max Level Bond) provide the largest training bonuses and are the most impactful for competitive Uma Musume builds.

How the Deck Calculator Works

The Support Deck Calculator: 1. Takes your six support cards (type, rarity, level) as input 2. Calculates expected stat gain per training type based on card compositions 3. Compares alternative deck builds side-by-side 4. Identifies which combination maximizes your target stat (Speed, Stamina, etc.)

Deck Comparison Example

DeckSpeed CardsExpected Speed Gain
Deck A3× SSR Speed + 1× SSR Friend1,050 Speed
Deck B2× SSR Speed + 2× SR Speed920 Speed
Deck C3× SSR Speed + 1× SSR Wisdom1,010 Speed (+ better SP)

Deck A maximizes raw Speed; Deck C is slightly lower Speed but generates more SP for skills.

Optimizing for Your Goal

Build GoalDeck Strategy
Max single stat3× SSR in target stat + 1 Friend + 1 Wisdom
Balanced runnerMixed SSR across Speed, Stamina, Power
Skill-heavy build2× Wisdom cards + SSR Speed + Friend
Energy managementInclude Friend cards with Energy Recovery

Bond (Relationship) Mechanics

Each support card has a Bond meter (0–100). Higher Bond unlocks additional training bonus effects: - 80 Bond: "Special Training" event trigger (large stat boost) - 100 Bond (MLB): All card bonus effects active at maximum strength

Cards with Initial Bond bonuses or Bond Gain bonuses help you reach high Bond faster, especially for Friend-type cards that don't have a dedicated training slot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best support deck composition in Uma Musume?
The optimal deck depends on your goal and available cards. For Speed-focused Uma Musume: 3 SSR Speed cards + 1 SSR Wisdom card + 1 SSR Friend card + 1 SSR Power or Stamina card is a strong template. This maximizes Speed gains while ensuring SP from Wisdom and energy management from Friend. The Deck Calculator compares your specific available cards to find the best combination from what you own.
How many SSR cards do I need in Uma Musume?
For competitive training results, 4–6 SSR cards in your deck is ideal. With fewer SSR cards, mix in SR cards in your primary stat slot to compensate. A deck of 3 MLB SSR cards + 3 high-level SR cards can still produce competitive Uma Musume, especially if the SSR cards have high Training Bonus percentages. Free-to-play players typically build 1–2 strong SSR cards per stat category over time.
What does the Friend card type do in Uma Musume?
Friend-type support cards don't belong to a specific training stat category — they appear in all training sessions regardless of which type you select. Friend cards typically focus on Energy Recovery (keeping your Uma Musume healthy to avoid training failures), Bond building bonuses, and special scenario-specific effects. They don't give the largest raw stat bonuses, but their universal presence and energy benefits make them valuable for consistent training runs.
How does Bond level affect training in Uma Musume?
Bond (relationship) level with each support card unlocks additional training bonus effects as it increases. Reaching 80 Bond unlocks the 'Special Training' trigger — a powerful event that provides a large one-time stat boost. At 100 Bond (Max), all card bonus effects are active simultaneously. Cards with Initial Bond bonuses help you start a training run already partway to 80 Bond, accelerating access to Special Training events.
