How Training Works in Uma Musume
Each in-game week, you choose a training action to improve one of your Uma Musume's five stats: Speed, Stamina, Power, Guts, or Wisdom. Each training type has a base stat gain, a failure chance (which causes Energy loss with no stat gain), and interactions with Support Cards placed in the deck.
Training Types and Primary Stats
Energy (Vitality) System
Energy is the resource that determines whether your Uma Musume can train effectively. Energy ranges from 0 to 100.
A training failure occurs when energy is low and RNG triggers a miss — you lose energy (and lose the week) with no stat gain.
How the Training Calculator Works
The Training Calculator estimates: 1. Expected stat gain per training action — considering energy level, failure chance, and support card bonuses 2. Energy cost per training type — speed training typically costs more energy than wisdom 3. Skill point generation — training and support cards generate SP for buying race skills 4. Bond gain — how much relationship with support characters improves
Inputs
Interpreting the Output
The calculator outputs expected stat distributions: - Average stat gain per training action - Variance — high-failure-rate training has wide outcomes - Energy-adjusted value — accounts for the expected energy cost
Support Card Slots and Bonuses
Support Cards placed in Speed, Stamina, Power, Guts, Wisdom, or Friend slots activate when you train in their category: - A Speed card in the Speed slot boosts stat gains when you train Speed - Higher card rarity and level = larger bonus - Cards with "Training Bonus" skills multiply base stat gains
Stacking multiple matching support cards in a training type (e.g., three Speed cards) significantly amplifies gains per training turn.
Training Strategy
The key tension: training builds stats but costs energy; resting restores energy but wastes stat-building turns. The Training Calculator models this trade-off across a full training cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How much energy should I have before training in Uma Musume?
- Training at 80+ energy gives normal to maximum gains with minimal failure risk. At 50–79 energy, gains are slightly reduced. Below 50, especially below 30, failure rate rises significantly and most players opt to Rest or take an Outing instead. The Training Calculator models energy thresholds to help you decide whether it's worth training or recovering energy first.
- What is a training failure in Uma Musume and how do I avoid it?
- A training failure occurs when your Uma Musume fails a training attempt due to low energy — you lose the week, energy drops further, and you gain no stat improvements. Avoid failures by keeping energy above 50 during intensive training periods. Wisdom training typically recovers some energy while still giving Wisdom stat gains, making it valuable when energy is low but you still want to train.
- What support cards should I use in Uma Musume for maximum stats?
- Focus on matching support cards to the stat you're building: for a Speed-focused Uma Musume, prioritize high-rarity Speed support cards that give Training Bonus and Speed stat bonuses. Friend cards add flexibility and energy recovery. SSR (highest rarity) cards offer significantly larger training bonuses than SR cards. A full team of matching SSR speed cards can 2–3× your speed gain per training compared to mismatched cards.
- How do I earn Skill Points (SP) in Uma Musume?
- Skill Points are generated from training actions, winning races, and certain scenario events. Wisdom training is often the most efficient SP generator per week because Wisdom training actions include SP generation alongside the stat gain. Support cards with SP Bonus skills increase the SP earned per training action. SP is spent in the skill tree to purchase and upgrade race skills that affect your Uma Musume's performance.
