Base odds
Many older main-series encounters use a base rate of 1 in 8,192, while many Generation VI and later encounters use 1 in 4,096. Specific titles, species, encounter types, and scripted events can use different rules.
Extra shiny rolls
When a mechanic grants independent extra checks, the effective probability is:
`1 - (1 - 1 / denominator)^rolls`

Repeated encounters
Across independent encounters, probability accumulates without becoming a guarantee:

Being over odds
A hunter can exceed the denominator without a shiny. The denominator is not normally a countdown. Under independent checks, the next encounter still has the same probability as the previous one.
Method-specific rules
Masuda Method, Shiny Charm, outbreaks, sandwiches, research levels, chains, Dynamax Adventures, and other systems must be researched for the exact game. Do not add modifiers mechanically unless the game really stacks them as independent rolls.
