How to Use This Calculator

Enter project length and width in feet, compacted depth in inches, supplier density in tons per cubic yard, waste percentage, price per ton and optional bag weight.

Formula & Methodology

Area equals length × width. Cubic feet equals area × depth ÷ 12. Cubic yards equals cubic feet ÷ 27. Base tons equals cubic yards × density. Recommended tons includes the selected waste allowance.

Worked example

A 40 ft × 12 ft driveway section at 4 in deep contains 160 ft³, or about 5.93 yd³. At 1.55 tons/yd³ and 10% extra, the recommended order is about 10.11 tons.

Actual bulk density changes with stone size, fines, moisture and compaction. Excavation, geotextile, sub-base, settlement and delivery minimums are not included unless added separately.
