How to Use This Calculator
Measure length and width in feet. Enter compacted target depth in inches. Use the supplier's stated tons-per-cubic-yard value when available because sand density varies with type and moisture.
Formula & Methodology
Volume in cubic feet equals length multiplied by width multiplied by depth in feet. Cubic yards equal cubic feet divided by 27. Estimated tons equal cubic yards multiplied by the entered density.
Example: a 20 ft by 10 ft area at 3 inches deep
A 20 by 10 foot area at 3 inches deep requires about 50 cubic feet or 1.85 cubic yards. At 1.4 tons per cubic yard, the estimated weight is about 2.59 tons.
Actual quantities vary with moisture, grain size, compaction, settlement, uneven excavation, spillage, and supplier loading increments. The calculator does not automatically add waste or compaction allowance.
