How to Use This Calculator

Select your current and target Smithing levels. Enter XP per completed action, bars used per action, actions per hour, current bar cost, other cost per action, and finished output value. Use the same definition of one action throughout.

Formula & Methodology

Actions needed equal XP remaining divided by XP per action and rounded up. Bars needed multiply actions by bars per action. Gross input cost combines bars and other costs. Gross output value multiplies actions by output value. Net cost is input cost minus output value. GP per XP divides net cost by XP remaining. Time divides actions by actions per hour.

Smithing bars into items

If a method grants 62.5 XP per completed item and uses 5 bars, enter those values to calculate items and bars required for your selected XP goal.

This calculator does not fetch live prices or automatically model Blast Furnace fees, coal bag routing, Goldsmith gauntlets, Giants' Foundry, cannonballs, smelting success, High Alchemy, bars with unusual XP rules, or every Smithing method. Enter method-specific averages manually.

Old School RuneScape methods and prices can change. Verify current XP values, material requirements, output values, and sustainable rates before committing resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the OSRS Smithing calculator work?
It converts the difference between your selected current and target XP thresholds into method-specific actions using the XP and rate assumptions you enter.
Does it use live Grand Exchange prices?
No. Enter current prices or values manually so the assumptions remain visible and can be updated before a large training goal.
Why are actions rounded up?
A level goal normally requires completing the final whole action, so required actions are rounded up.
Can I use a different training method?
Yes. Replace the example XP, speed, material, success-rate, cost, and output assumptions with values for the method you actually plan to use.
Are the results exact?
The XP-threshold arithmetic is deterministic, but time, success rates, costs, yields, and profit depend on the method and assumptions entered.
