How to Use This Calculator
For a term-only result, leave current GPA credits and cumulative GPA at zero. For a projected cumulative result, use the institutional GPA credits and GPA shown in Testudo. Leave out transfer and non-GPA coursework.
Formula & Methodology
Each course contributes grade points equal to grade value multiplied by course credits. Term GPA equals term grade points divided by graded credits. Projected cumulative GPA combines current grade points with the new term.
Example: 45 GPA credits at 3.20
With 45 GPA credits at 3.20, current grade points equal 144.00. Add the new term grade points and credits, then divide combined grade points by combined GPA credits.
This calculator is an estimate. It cannot inspect Testudo, apply petitions, resolve repeat-course exceptions, or determine college-specific academic requirements.

- What grading scale does University of Maryland use?
- UMD assigns 4.0 to both A+ and A, then uses the standard plus/minus values through D- 0.7; F and XF carry 0.0.
- How is GPA calculated?
- Multiply each grade value by course credits, add the grade points, and divide by graded credits.
- How are repeated courses treated?
- UMD generally includes all graded attempts, but its undergraduate new-student provision can exclude an earlier attempt for eligible courses taken during the first semester or first 24 attempted credits.
- Which grades should be excluded?
- I, P, S, W, and NGR are not included in GPA while they retain those marks.
- Is this the official GPA?
- No. Verify the official value in Testudo or with University of Maryland.
