How to Use This Calculator
Add only courses from the semester you want to calculate. Select each grade, enter its credits, and use 0 credits for unused rows.
Formula & Methodology
Semester GPA = semester quality points ÷ semester GPA credits. Each course contributes grade points × credit hours.
Example: a 15-credit semester
If five 3-credit courses earn A, A−, B+, B, and A grades, total quality points are 54.0 and semester GPA is 54.0 ÷ 15 = 3.60.
The calculation does not automatically apply institutional rules for withdrawals, incompletes, repeated classes, pass/fail courses, or academic forgiveness.
Use your registrar’s official term GPA for academic standing, financial aid, athletic eligibility, and graduation requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is semester GPA?
- Semester GPA is the credit-weighted grade-point average for courses completed in one academic term.
- Is semester GPA the same as cumulative GPA?
- No. Semester GPA covers one term, while cumulative GPA combines all GPA-bearing terms or courses.
- How do I include a withdrawn course?
- Follow your institution’s policy. A withdrawal often does not carry grade points, but rules vary.
- Why do higher-credit courses matter more?
- Their grade points are multiplied by more credit hours, so they contribute more quality points.
