How to Use This Calculator
For a term-only calculation, leave current GPA credits and cumulative GPA at zero. For a projected cumulative result, copy the institutional GPA credits and GPA shown in MyU. Exclude transfer and non-GPA coursework.
Formula & Methodology
Each course contributes grade points equal to its grade value multiplied by its credits. Term GPA is total term grade points divided by graded credits. Projected cumulative GPA combines current grade points with the new term.
Example: 45 GPA credits at 3.20
A student with 45 GPA credits at 3.20 has 144.00 current grade points. The default 10-credit example adds 35.00 grade points. The projected GPA is 179.00 / 55 = 3.25.

- What grading scale does University of Minnesota use?
- A+ at 4.333 is limited to specified Law School courses, so the general calculator begins with A at 4.000.
- How is the GPA calculated?
- Multiply each course's grade value by its credits, add the grade points, and divide by the graded credits.
- How are repeated courses treated?
- For undergraduate repeats, both attempts remain on the transcript, but normally only the last enrollment counts in the cumulative GPA and credits are counted once.
- Which grades should be excluded?
- S and N grades do not carry grade points in the standard A–F GPA.
- Is this the official GPA?
