How to Use This Calculator
Combine every transcript attempt that should be included and enter the credits beside the matching grade. Include repeated or forgiven courses when both the grade and attempted units remain visible on the transcript. Leave excluded, omitted, unconverted, audit, withdrawal, and nonpunitive entries out unless LSAC rules for your transcript key say otherwise.
Formula & Methodology
Each grade bucket is multiplied by its LSAC conversion value: A+ 4.33, A 4.00, A− 3.67, AB 3.50, B+ 3.33, B 3.00, B− 2.67, BC 2.50, C+ 2.33, C 2.00, C− 1.67, CD 1.50, D+ 1.33, D 1.00, D− 0.67, DE/DF 0.50, and E/F 0.00. Total quality points are divided by total included credits.
Example: 30 A credits and 30 B credits
Thirty A credits produce 120 quality points and thirty B credits produce 90. The estimated LSAC GPA is 210 divided by 60, or 3.50.
This is not an official CAS Academic Summary Report. LSAC applies transcript-specific rules, institution transcript keys, credit conversions, treatment of repeated courses, academic forgiveness, punitive withdrawals, pass/fail symbols, international records, and other exceptions. Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the LSAC GPA the same as my college GPA?
- Not always. LSAC may include transcript attempts or apply conversion rules differently from the GPA printed by your college.
- Does LSAC count repeated courses?
- When both the grade and attempted units for each attempt appear on the transcript, LSAC generally includes all attempts in its calculation.
- Does an A+ count as 4.33?
- The common LSAC conversion table assigns 4.33 to an A+, but the grade must be reported and interpreted under the applicable transcript key.
- Are withdrawals included?
- Ordinary nonpunitive withdrawals are commonly omitted, while symbols that signify failure may be treated differently. Check the transcript key and current LSAC rules.
- Is this calculator official?
- No. Only LSAC's CAS transcript summarization and Academic Summary Report provide the official result used in the application process.
