How to Use This Calculator
For a semester-only result, leave current GPA credit hours and current cumulative GPA at zero. For a projected cumulative result, use the GPA credit hours and GPA shown on your Purdue academic record. Add only courses included in the GPA. Purdue states that W, WF, and WN are excluded from GPA calculations.
Formula & Methodology
Each course contributes quality points equal to credit hours multiplied by its grade-point value. Semester GPA equals total semester quality points divided by total graded semester credits. Projected cumulative GPA equals current cumulative quality points plus semester quality points, divided by current GPA hours plus new graded credits.
Example: 45 current GPA hours at 3.20
A student with 45 GPA credit hours and a 3.20 cumulative GPA has 144 current quality points. If the student earns an A in a 4-credit course, a B+ in a 3-credit course, and a B in a 3-credit course, the semester adds 34.9 quality points across 10 credits. The projected cumulative GPA is (144 + 34.9) / 55 = 3.25.
