The junior enlisted timeline
The path from Airman Basic through Senior Airman depends on entry grade, Date of Rank, time in service, time in grade, and applicable promotion rules.
The USAF BTZ Calculator focuses on the A1C-to-SrA portion of that timeline.
Time in service
Time in service is measured from the official service date used for promotion purposes. It is not always safe to substitute a training graduation date, arrival date, or another memorable date.
Time in grade
Time in grade is measured from the official Date of Rank for the current grade. For BTZ calculations, the A1C Date of Rank is critical.
Normal Senior Airman promotion
The normal fully qualified date is based on the earlier of the two qualifying paths described in the governing promotion instruction.
BTZ
BTZ can move the effective Senior Airman date six months earlier for selected Airmen. It does not eliminate the competitive nomination and selection process.
