Expected DPS is the average damage per attack divided by the attack interval in seconds. The breakdown shows the effective levels, rolls, hit chance, max hit, and timing so the result can be audited.

Source and Scope

This calculator is based on the OSRS Wiki melee and ranged DPS pages, the Maximum ranged hit page, and the Game tick page. It uses the base manual formulas rather than an equipment database.

Manual Melee Setup

Use Attack as the offensive level and Strength as the damage level. The equipment attack bonus should be the style you are using: stab, slash, or crush. The equipment strength bonus is the melee strength value from the equipment stats panel.

Manual Ranged Setup

Use Ranged as both the offensive and damage level. Ranged attack prayer and ranged strength prayer can differ, especially with Rigour. Use the target's ranged defence bonus and adjust the attack speed if you are using rapid style.

Multipliers

Leave gear multipliers at 1 unless you are manually applying a known modifier such as void, slayer helm, salve, wilderness weapon bonuses, or a target-specific effect. Some modifiers stack in special ways, so verify the exact setup before entering them.

Why Magic Is Not Included

Magic DPS depends on spell base max hit, magic damage bonuses, powered staff rules, elemental weaknesses, and additional item-specific effects. This calculator does not claim full OSRS Wiki DPS parity and intentionally limits itself to manual melee and ranged calculations.

How to Use This Calculator

For melee, use Attack for the offensive level and Strength for the damage level. For ranged, use Ranged for both levels, with the ranged attack prayer multiplier for accuracy and ranged strength prayer multiplier for max hit. Enter the relevant equipment attack bonus, strength or ranged strength bonus, target defence stats, and weapon speed in ticks.

Formula & Methodology

The calculator uses the OSRS Wiki formulas for melee and ranged manual DPS. Effective levels are floor((floor((level + boost) * prayer multiplier) + style bonus + 8) * void multiplier). Attack roll is floor(effective offensive level * (equipment attack bonus + 64) * accuracy gear multiplier). Monster defence roll is (target defence level + 9) * (target style defence bonus + 64). If attack roll is greater than defence roll, hit chance is 1 - (defence roll + 2) / (2 * (attack roll + 1)); otherwise it is attack roll / (2 * (defence roll + 1)). Max hit is floor(floor(0.5 + effective damage level * (strength or ranged strength bonus + 64) / 640) * damage gear multiplier). Average damage per attack is hit chance * (max hit / 2 + 1 / (max hit + 1)), with zero max hit treated as zero expected damage. DPS divides average damage per attack by attack speed ticks * 0.6 seconds.

Melee example

A 75 Attack, 75 Strength melee setup with +3 offensive and damage style bonuses, +100 attack bonus, +100 strength bonus, a target with 100 Defence and +50 style defence, and a 4-tick weapon produces approximately 2.57 DPS.

This is a manual-mode calculator. It does not fetch equipment, monster, spell, special attack, Twisted bow, enchanted bolt, multicombat, poison, recoil, thrall, overkill, or phase-specific data automatically. Enter gear, style, void, slayer, salve, and target-specific multipliers manually when they apply. Magic DPS is intentionally not automated here because magic max-hit and accuracy rules have additional spell and equipment branches.

Old School RuneScape mechanics can change. Verify unusual weapons, special attacks, and boss-specific modifiers against the OSRS Wiki or in-game testing before making high-cost gear decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this OSRS DPS calculator support melee and ranged?
Yes. Use Attack and Strength inputs for melee, or use Ranged for both offensive and damage levels when calculating ranged DPS.
Does it import OSRS equipment or monster stats automatically?
No. This is manual mode. Enter equipment bonuses, target defence stats, and any known multipliers yourself.
Why is attack speed entered in ticks?
Old School RuneScape actions use game ticks. The calculator converts ticks to seconds using 0.6 seconds per tick.
Does this match the full OSRS Wiki DPS calculator?
No. It follows the same base melee and ranged formulas, but it does not automate equipment datasets, special attacks, magic, or boss-specific exceptions.
How do I enter Rigour for ranged?
Use 1.20 for offensive prayer multiplier and 1.23 for damage prayer multiplier, then enter the correct style and void multipliers for your setup.
